Michael Prais is an Optometrist and, until recently, had two independent practices and is involved in IT consultancy.
In 2004 Michael wrote a program, Opticabase for his practices to reduce the time spent by his receptionists filling out the NHS GOS forms and writing Patient recall letters. This has been running successfully for these years freeing up his staff to busy themselves with other important duties. He initially installed it in practices belonging to friends who are very happy with this simple but powerful tool.
As there was a lack of low cost software designed for independent optical practices, Michael decided to offer Opticabase to the profession. Michael has continued to develop Opticabase over the years along with his Optometrist wife and other Opticians. Many customers who started with the basic system are now using the fully paperless system having seen how simple Opticabase is to use.
Michael's wife Amanda, who is not as computer literate, works in independent practices and helps advise on the development of Opticabase from a the point of view of a user who is not used to using computers.
Opticabase is software truly designed by Opticians for Opticians.
In October 2024 Opticabase was bought by the
Evex Group Who already owned 4 other practice management systems in Europe. Michael continues to work for Evex giving support for Opticabase users as before.
